Contours of the Past 2401

Shaped with a hatchet and hollowed from wood, this work is finished using traditional Japanese lacquering techniques. Stone powder gives a matte, textured surface that will evolve over time. Inside, gold leaf grains are applied with urushi in the sunago-maki technique.
