The exterior is shaped from wood with a hatchet, then the inside is hollowed out and fitted with a plate to form a base. Although it functions as a vase, the piece is created as an object. Kenji Honma refines raw lacquer he collected himself and finishes the vessel in its natural colour using traditional Japanese techniques.
