This piece belongs to the Supercoil series which are hand-built sculptures that explore the tactile nature of materials, the artistic process, and slow, deliberate handcrafting. Lea Mi Engholm works with simple techniques in which repetition creates structure, and structure gradually leads to form. Her ceramic works take on the appearance of complex knots and accumulations, giving the illusion of a soft and flexible material. Lea challenges both the clay and her own craftsmanship to push the boundaries of what the material can do and the expressive possibilities it holds.
