This vessel form was carved from a solid block of clay at the 'leatherhard' stage, when the clay is firm but still slightly damp, making it strong enough to hold its shape while soft enough to carve or shape. The carving is intended to echo the qualities of hewn rock faces. The vessel was fired in an electric kiln to Cone 10. The glaze used includes copper and titanium.
