Violin top inspired by Guarneri del Gesù

This violin top, inspired by the late period of Guarneri del Gesù, is made from spruce aged for 20 years and sourced from Val di Fiemme in Italy. It is finished with linseed oil varnish and homemade blonde shellac pigments, and antiqued ad libitum to suit the client’s taste. The top is crafted from two symmetrical pieces of wood from the same log, joined at the centre. The arching has been hand-carved with gouges, and finished with planes and scrapers. The interior was hollowed by hand to achieve the optimal point of flexibility.
