This piece is called Hanagasumi, which literally translates to hazy curtain of flowers. It is made by randomly applying copper, iron and feldspar over a straw ash glaze base. Then, it is coated with a thin ash glaze and fired to produce a hazy, floral landscape of five different glazes that blend together. In rare cases, a beautiful green colouration can appear. This is a traditional Japanese pouring vessel with a spout. It is used as a cooler for sake and tea, but can also be used as a dressing container.
