This series of rings represents the view of Mexico City as seen from a plane. The base of the rings is made using the sand casting technique, with a thickness of up to 1.5mm. The rest of the volume is built by soldering layers of silver filings. These layers are soldered at different temperatures until the desired volume is achieved. In this series, Jorge Manilla uses borax as a natural patina, utilising its colour and crystallisation to achieve the necessary hues from the process.
Homo Faber Finds is a new service aiming to inspire admirers of craft to connect and collaborate with exceptional artisans.
