The Danse Macabre vessel was handcrafted in porcelain clay. The lace patterns and dancing skeleton motifs were created by outlining the silhouettes with hundreds of pin prick incisions, after which a blue ink stain was brushed over the patterns and then scraped back to enhance the imagery. Gold lustre was applied to the decorative borders surrounding the rim and base.
