This oval canoe-shaped dish is made by hollowing out a block of wood using a chisel and a plane. The ippiki wood used for this bowl was found in a park in the area around Takashi Tomii’s home and studio. The inside is finished with beeswax and the outside with lacquer mixed with blue pigment, creating a strong contrast in colour.
