This stoneware oval vase by Penélope Vallejo is covered in several layers of porcelain. It is after the final firing that the porcelain shrinks over the dark and rigid body, generating a skin of fragile and delicate appearance, but strong and vitrified. The process is subject to many variables, making it possible to control to some extent the aesthetic appearance and becoming an object where fire will always have the last word.
