Crystalline Glazed Platter
This stoneware platter is slip cast with a crystalline glaze, a specific glaze in which crystals form and grow inside the glaze during cooling. The inner crystal glaze is thus composed of blue crystals on a tan background. The external part was treated with a black glaze. During the manufacturing process, the piece was fired at 1285°C with an extended cooling time to allow the crystals to grow. It has been then re-fired to 750° to change the background colour: a technique of glass blowing called striking.
