A modern twist on traditional papier-mâché masks

Ca' Macana, in the Dorsoduro district, is a workshop dedicated to making traditional and artistic papier-mâché masks entirely by hand, using plaster moulds and decorations with a variety of materials. Two workshops operate on a continuous cycle six days a week, giving visitors the chance to see the artisans making papier-mâché masks at the various stages involved. Depending on the day of the visit, you may also witness the decorating of the masks with a variety of painting techniques including gold leaf, stucco and feathers, to name but a few. It offers the opportunity to breathe in the atmosphere and get a close-up look at the faces of the world’s most elegant Carnival. Ca' Macana offers a full programme of workshops. This visit is free and can accommodate up to 5 people. Please be informed that this experience will be available from 6 September
