Try a hand-operated warper in Florence

Weaving

Florence, Italy

A warper is used to arrange strands of yarn or thread lengthwise onto a loom in preparation for weaving. This experience allows participants to use an original 18th-century warper made from an original design by Leonardo da Vinci. The visit to the Antico Setificio Fiorentino silk mill is accompanied by an explanation of the history and the different stages of processing on six hand-operated 18th-century looms and six semi-mechanical 19th-century looms. The visit ends in the showroom, with an explanation of the fabrics and some of the most interesting works carried out in recent years.
