Shibori dyeing class in Gran Canaria

with Ulrike Güse

Canarian cochineal and Japanese dyeing technique

In this workshop, participants will be provided with a blank silk scarf to experiment with the fascinating world of natural dyes with weaver Ulrike Güse. The main focus of the workshop will be the Canarian cochineal, a little insect farmed on cacti, that is one of the most important natural colour sources for a wide range of reds and pinks. This natural colour will be paired with the Japanese shibori dye technique which takes textile printing to another level during the dye process, giving participants the chance to create surprising one-of-a-kind patterns.
