Overglaze course in Vienna

Ceramics

Vienna, Austria

Melanie van der Donk, whose ceramics are inspired by Bontjes van Beek and early Korean and Chinese vessels with their deep, often monochrome overglazes, offers two six-month courses in overglaze technology. Each comprises 15 classes of 3 or 4 hours each. Starting with a profound theoretical introduction to the complex chemical and physical coherence of glaze, the course then aims to help participants develop their own overglazes out of raw materials such as feldspar, kaolin, quartz or engobes. It’s a course for specialists and patient tinkerers who are willing to put in the time to make test series. The courses take place at the artistic adult education centre in Vienna, where all necessary equipment is provided. The courses are regularly scheduled at the beginning of each semester in September and March. Firing costs 2 euros per kg.
