Inside the upholstered form

USA-based artisan Matthew Nafranowicz reimagines traditional upholstery through contemporary forms and materials. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Matthew will create a small traditionally padded stool using loose, curled fibres encased in hessian, and shaped through hand stitching. Inspired by historic upholstered forms, the piece will showcase the normally hidden structure beneath upholstery while exploring new possibilities for the craft.
