A fish tannery tour near Stockholm

with Lotta Rahme | Sigtuna, Sweden

Discover Sweden's Intangible Cultural Heritage

A leading expert in the exotic field of fish tanning, Lotta Rahme is not only a certified Master tanner, but also a passionate teacher and lecturer, always willing to welcome visitors and tell them the fascinating history of a craft that the prehistoric populations of the Arctic regions developed thousands of years ago. The guided visit takes place in Lotta’s workshop and tannery, where she demonstrates how she scrapes, scales, tans and softens an incredible variety of fish skins. In her atelier, Lotta exhibits many samples of plant-dyed skins, which she skillfully transforms into handbags, hats, bracelets and bowls. The price is per group.
