Arctic fish tanning: a primeval craft

If you are curious to learn everything about a craft that was developed by prehistoric men and women at the dawn of time, you cannot miss Lotta Rahme’s workshop and tannery in Sigtuna, a picturesque town just north of Stockholm. A Master tanner since 2019, Lotta shows visitors around her workshop and tannery, illustrating the entire artisanal production process of many different fish skins. At the end of the tour, Lotta’s lecture focuses on some of the projects she has been involved in, and on the women from other Arctic regions around the world who have shared their knowledge of traditional tanning with her.
