Andreia and her father Fernando welcome visitors to their charming workshop situated in Cascais, a lovely seaside city near Lisbon. They learnt the art of traditional bookbinding and gilding from Andreia's grandfather Mestre Victor Luiz dos Santos, who was recognised in 2005 by Portugal’s president as one of the finest bookbinders and gilders in Portugal. Andreia and Fernando love to continue his legacy and pass on their great passion for the craft by sharing their rich family bookbinding history with visitors. In a live demonstration the pair reveal the steps needed to artfully bind a book. In this way, they attempt to keep this beautiful art alive and spark interest in younger generations.
