Silkscreen printing workshop in Lyon

Lyon has been the European capital of silk since the 16th century, the Atelier de Soierie welcomes individuals and groups from all over the world to discover a traditional craft: silk screening, which is also known as printing "à la lyonnaise". Visitors can attend the various stages of the colouring of a square of silk, from the preparation of the dye through to the printing of the pattern. The visit to the workshop is accompanied by an explanation of the history of silk making and of other traditional techniques used such as hand-printing using carved wooden print-block. The trip ends with a visit to the boutique which offers a wide range of articles all printed or painted in the workshop.
