How would you describe your creations?
I work with experimental material and processes, inspired by nature and intangible cultural heritage to create objects that narrate a story which could be glassware, installations, or home products.
Do you remember when you first thought of picking up this craft?
One winter semester, while studying Industrial Design at Rhode Island School of Design, I chose a class called Introduction to Glass Blowing. I stepped into a warm room with a furnace on full fire. The first project was to blow a bubble – a liquid material slowly turns solid and changes colour. The versatility of glass fascinated me from that point on.
Can you describe your glass and sand project?
The infusion of sand in glass is an ongoing research project. I even have a sand library. I use different techniques of glassmaking combined with sand. Working with sand from different parts of the world, infused in glass, makes me happy to encapsulate time and place into a tangible object.
Do you consciously push boundaries in working with new materials?
Of course. Once I am very familiar with making a collection, it is time for something new. Every year I try to learn new skills, use new technologies like AI. By working with different glass workshops, I also learn more creative discourse.
