Laura Cambon

Glass sculptor

Glass making meets contemporary design

  • Laura innovated with a flexible mesh system in glass
  • Her designs are custom-made for interior spaces
  • She has been awarded several times as a young talent

Drawing on her professional experience as an interior designer, Laura Cambon offers a new interpretation of glass making. The young designer focuses her approach on the spatial dimension of the material: by exploring its light, transparency and opacity, she creates contemporary decorative elements for indoor spaces. She has notably innovated with an assembly technique that allows her to create modular panels and light fixtures made of glass and metal mesh. Laura's passion for fine art glass arose from her time as an interior designer at Maison Lalique, a famous French manufacturer with the greatest glassmaking tradition. Since 2019, she has been working independently, exploring her distinctive practice that merges traditional know-how with digital tools.

How did you come to choose glass?
The glassmaking profession first seemed mysterious and inaccessible to me, I knew little about this craft tradition, which is not well developed in my home region. My experience at Lalique introduced me to the fascinating world and know-how of glassmaking, it gave me the desire to work with this material.
Did you learn alongside a master?
During my year of training at CERFAV, I was able to do an internship with two glass artists based in the Ardèche, George and Monique Stahl, who specialise in glass paste work, and then an internship at CIRVA in Marseille. Working with experienced craftspeople was very beneficial and formative.
What specific techniques are involved in your creations?
I work with versatile techniques such as kiln-firing and cold working glass, cutting and assembling metal, together with the mastery of digital tools and vector drawing for the design of my models.
Can you think of a key moment in your career?
In 2020, when I received the Métiers d’art Emerging Talent award from the Grands Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris. This prize, received when my activity was still very recent, gave me real encouragement as it recognised my contemporary approach and my practice.
