Her series of artworks and sculptures have received notable reviews and appreciation for their audacity, both in Italy and abroad. She graduated from the Art School in Rome and in 1982 moved to Tuscany and opened her own professional studio. Her works began to gain visibility and success. Why did you choose glass?
It’s a very difficult material to manipulate but it is also wonderful, almost magical. The inspiration for working with glass came from observing glass blowers and their creative process. I spent years learning everything related to glassmaking techniques.
How did you discover glass fusing?
I started a personal research and experimentation, based on the relationship between light and glass. It's now a perpetual challenge for me, taking the material to its limits, making it ever more fluid and in movement.
Did you develop your own technique?
Yes, the glass melts at 800 degrees celsius and it becomes fluid. I pour it into a sort of grid and create drops made longer and larger by the force of gravity.
What’s the message behind your sculptures?
My sculptures seek to challenge the preconceptions around glass. It’s not rigid and cold, but in perpetual movement. My dream-like creations often recall the undulating shapes of aquatic life such as jellyfish.
