Crafting with wood in all its forms

Bottega Ghianda, founded in 1889 by Iginio Ghianda, is part of a small circle of international workshops at the forefront of woodcraft. This is thanks to the work of Pierluigi Ghianda, who transformed his father’s business into an extraordinary centre of creation. The mastery of Bottega Ghianda's craftsmen manifests itself in a variety of ways. On the one hand, fine woodworking requires the ability to resolve genuine design conundrums – joints, inlays, inserts, connections and other solutions to assemble wooden forms without the use of nails or other materials – and at the same time, a master woodworker must have extraordinary control of manual skills and everything that concerns the actual working of wood.

Over the years, Bottega Ghianda has enabled the great names of architecture, design and art to transform their creative ideas into reality with the help of its expert craftsmen. Its list of collaborations is impressive, ranging from Giò Ponti in the 1930s to Castiglioni, Boeri, Magistretti, Zanuso, Noorda and Sottsass in the following years, to name just a few. In 2015, Romeo Sozzi, founder of furniture company Promemoria, took over Bottega Ghianda to develop it and to maintain its traditions, with the help of new creative director Michele de Lucchi.
