Amid the creative landscape of the island of Murano, Yukina Fiorese makes jewellery and sculptures bring together the refined aesthetics of her homeland with the mastery of Venetian glassmaking. Born and raised in Japan, she moved to Italy in the 1990s to pursue her passion for fashion. “Instead, I discovered the art of lampworking, a technique that later shaped my creative path,” she explains. Over the years, Yukina has collaborated with leading fashion houses at Milan Fashion Week and has worked with Japanese artist Tomoko Shirakumo to create jewellery inspired by her most celebrated works. She has also participated in major events dedicated to contemporary glass art, including Venice Glass Week.

INTERVIEW
When I first visited Murano, I was captivated by the way the light reflected off the lagoon, making the glass artworks shine. I had always loved making things by hand, but from that moment, my journey into the world of glass truly began.
Working in fashion taught me the importance of originality, showing me how closely design is connected to everyday life. This philosophy continues to guide my work as a glass artist.
My atelier is located on the island of Murano, surrounded by nature. The colours of the water, the ever-changing sky, the historic streets, the cries of seagulls and the sound of water all inspire my work. I often find inspiration in everything I experience through my five senses.
Both countries feel like home to me. People who see my work often sense influences from Japan and Italy. In a way, this reflects who I am. I hope to continue creating pieces that serve as a bridge between the two.
