• Tomoko's ceramics are inspired by the idea that everything is connected

Born in Akita, Japan, Tomoko Konno first discovered ceramics in 1994 while taking a pottery class in Hong Kong. Wanting to learn more, she moved to Tokoname, where she rented a studio and began developing her practice on her own. Tomoko began by making vessels, but her work changed when she started turning feelings of stress into sculptural forms. "At that moment, I felt a connection between my mind and hands," she says. "This experience became the starting point for the work I make today." Her practice is guided by the energy she feels within herself rather than by direct images of nature. Tomoko has exhibited internationally and gives lectures and workshops to share her personal approach to making with people around the world.
