The world of craft on a decorative egg
Kuwaiti-Indian designer Tahir Sultan leads the multidisciplinary luxury brand that shares his name across fashion, art, interiors, design, food and lifestyle. Rooted in a philosophy of bridging east and west, the brand reinterprets heritage through a contemporary lens. Tahir’s cross-disciplinary practice has led to collaborations with leading institutions and brands from Sotheby’s and Porsche to The India Art Fair, Christian Louboutin and Vogue. His artworks include large-scale installations and exhibitions across India and the Gulf, with pieces held in prominent collections.
For Homo Faber 2026, Tahir presents part of his Dissection of the Lineage of Craft series. In it, he aims to create 300 eggs over three years using traditional craft techniques while introducing new ideas, forms and possibilities. The egg, as an embryonic beginning, serves as the foundation of every work. For the Kashmir edition, Tahir conveys a personal story related to his father, who owns a 200-year-old Saudi Arabian Bedouin chieftain’s coat hand-embroidered by Kashmiri artists and crafted from pure cashmere. In Srinagar, Tahir collaborated with Shabir Hussein Khaja, a third-generation papier-mâché artisan, to reinterpret the coat’s embroidery on a papier-mâché egg.
