How do you decide on materials for your craft?
I choose materials through extensive research, often from books. Ceramics are my mainstay, and I am inspired by historical eras and objects. I incorporate these inspirations into my projects, blending historical context with contemporary design.
Why do you prefer to create ornamental objects over functional ones?
Creating ornamental objects allows me to break free from the constraints of my previous experience in minimalist and functional design. It lets me explore cultural symbolism and express myself more freely, addressing issues like cultural appropriation.
What role do clay and plaster play in your process?
Clay's versatility lets me express diverse ideas, shaping them into final pieces using plaster moulds. The process can be challenging and time-consuming, but it allows for a wide range of artistic expressions and detailed craftsmanship.
Are there specific values you hope to pass on?
My work reflects on how we live and interact with other cultures, emphasizing the interconnectedness and potential impact of our actions. I aim to highlight both the beauty and the complexities of cultural exchanges in my creations.
