Misun Won creates contemporary jewellery inspired by South Korean tradition. Born in Seoul, she finished her BA in fine arts in South Korea before moving to the UK and enrolling in a master's degree at the Edinburgh College of Art. "This international background allowed me to bring a fresh approach to my creative practice,” Misun says. While her objects are deeply rooted in her culture and heritage, they still explore new contexts through an innovative, hands-on way of making. Jogakbo, the traditional Korean patchwork cloth, and keum-boo, an ancient Korean fusing technique, define Misun's practice. Working with a single sheet of gold and silver, she translates these concepts into her work, using simple units and repetitive patterns.
