Leather watch straps down the generations

The story of LIC, ‘Leather International Cuir’, began in 1971 when it was founded in Ostend by artisan Yves Thomas. After having studied at the prestigious leather craft school Les Ateliers Grégoire in Paris, Yves honed his skills at luxury goods giant Hermès. This is where he mastered the delicate craft of leather strap making and boosted the design and manufacturing process. With this experience, he made LIC a respected specialist of premium watch straps, tailored for the world’s leading brands. From the outset, all pieces were produced in-house by skilled artisans, using noble leathers sourced from renowned tanneries and finished with meticulous attention to detail. To go from leather hide to final product takes no less than one hundred steps, all requiring gentle manual operations.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Xavier Thomas first obtained know-how at Les Ateliers Grégoire before joining the family company. He introduced cutting-edge techniques and developed new markets, without disregarding the quality and style for which LIC is known. Thanks to this dedication across generations, LIC established an international presence, its expertise reaching far beyond European borders.
