- She works with Armenian wild clay to create expressive vessels and sculptures
- She shares her passion through teaching and creative exchange
“All my works are about me. If someone sees them as I intended, I am happy that my art has found its voice,” says Liana Simonyan. Her studio, Lisi Studi, is more than just a ceramics workspace, it is a place for self-expression, teaching and ongoing artistic discovery. Trained by leading masters from Armenia and Spain, Liana has shaped her own path in ceramic sculpture as an extension of her background in interior design and floristics. Over time, her studio became a space for exchanging ideas with others, and this dialogue has grown into one of her main sources of inspiration. Working with Armenian wild clay, Liana creates pieces that carry a renewed expression of contemporary infused with the richness of local heritage.
INTERVIEW
My style is tactile and emotionally intense. When I started, my approach was entirely intuitive, but over time I learned to understand exactly what I want to express and convey. I am drawn to creating pieces that are both abstract and functional.
Everything around me is a source of inspiration, especially teaching. I embrace the thoughts and ideas of others, which often transform my own thinking and reveal possibilities I might never have discovered on my own.
It is an evolving process. Sometimes I spend a long time sketching or working on a piece until I feel the problem I created has been solved. Excellence comes when the emotion I sought to convey is felt by others as I intended.
I work with Armenian wild clay, introducing it in new and unexpected ways. Its character is raw and untamed, but I enjoy transforming it, conveying something subtle while honouring its firm, natural essence.
