What is the essence of your work?
In a world where everything is fast, I cherish the slow, thoughtful process of crafting something beautiful. It is not just about the finished piece, but about the heart and effort put into it. The act of creating requires time. That is what makes something truly special.
What is the most memorable piece you have made?
I made Alicia Keys’ wedding album for her and after that, she commissioned an art book for her husband—to be completed in two weeks! I recall meeting her backstage after a concert to discuss the project. It pushed me to give my best and proved to be an incredible learning experience. The book even flew first class in its own seat!
How does your work reflect your personality?
My work reflects my personality through the harmony of hands, head and heart. A big compliment came from a customer who told me, ‘A craftsperson works with head and hands, but you add the heart.’ That is my goal—pouring my soul into each creation.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
It fills me with gratitude to make a living doing what I love, creating beautiful pieces and teaching my craft to a younger generation. I am amazed that I have been sought out from my small village, Dodewaard, and am humbled by all the opportunities that have come my way.
