Colour blast bags
- Giorgio launched his business in 1979
- He was a pioneer of coloured leather goods
- Today, his daughter work with him as a designer
Giorgio Figus is not much of a talker. While his wife and daughter Eleonora deal with customers, he prefers to stick to his workshop in the backroom of one of his two Milanese shops. He has been creating handmade leather bags and accessories for more than 40 years, following an early artistic vocation. When he was a child in his native Sardinia, he used to wake up in the middle of the night to draw on the walls of his bedroom. Growing up, he learned to work with wood, then moved to Milan and tackled leatherwork. Since 1979, when Giorgio opened his first workshop, many things have changed. The workshop has survived the economic crisis and the recent pandemic. His daughter Eleonora has joined the family business, designing bags as well as jewellery. What has remained the same is the quality of the products, that are made with the same love and expertise as always.

INTERVIEW
When I moved to Milan, I was young and seeking my fortune. I took on many jobs and tried many different things. Leathercraft proved to be the one for me. I asked my brothers to come from Sardinia and join me in the workshop!
They are all extremely practical, simple and Italian. From the Timeless collection, the iconic line that I designed myself, to the Be Figus line created by my daughter Eleonora.
Colour. I was the first artisan in Milan – and perhaps in Italy – to launch coloured leather goods. Before, they were all brown: my idea was so disruptive that it was not easy to find a tannery ready to collaborate with me at first. But in the end I managed, and it was a success.
I am not interested in laying down the law in terms of fashion. I prefer for my customers to be their own designers and express their own style. Part of my job consists in meeting their requests for colours, combinations, details and materials.
