In 2015, Doriano De Rosa founded atelier Bixxis with his daughter, Martina. Bixxis is a name that embodies the dream of handcrafting 21st (XXI) century bicycles, combining the wisdom of traditional craftsmanship, with research and innovation. "Our ability to listen to customers, whether they are professional cyclists or not, is paramount to our business," explains Doriano. He learned bicycle building from his father, Ugo, at an early age and in the form of an intensive apprenticeship. In turn, Doriano has passed on his know-how to Martina, in a virtuous circle that sees three generations at the service of the most demanding of cyclists. The bicycles produced by the father-daughter duo are unique pieces in steel and titanium, entirely handmade and completely customised to the needs of the individual rider.

How did you begin to build bicycles?: Doriano: When I was 13 years old, I spent hours watching my father work. He was a humble but determined man, shy by nature, but all the greatest cyclists of the time went to him. Back then, they would choose the best frame builder and have an ongoing relationship with him. Listening is the greatest lesson I learned from him.
Is there a specialty of yours that makes Bixxis bikes unique?: Doriano: Titanium is a very particular material that is difficult to work with. The welding requires the use of aeronautical technology which I have been applying for decades. It is very expensive and lengthy, but the results are great. Titanium bikes are very comfortable because titanium absorbs the shocks from the ground, it is durable and very light.
How would you describe working with your father?: Martina: Working together as father and daughter enriches our collaboration as well as our emotional relationship. For me it is very exciting and very inspiring. There is a stimulating, continuous dialogue, that is inter-generational, mutually respectful, and in which we share values, experiences and visions. We grow together.
What is special about working at Bixxis?: Martina: A real, close-knit community has been created around Bixxis, made up of our customers. Our activity is not purely a business, the human side gives us great satisfaction. Every year we organise a meeting with customers, a bike ride together and even a Christmas lunch. Our relationship does not end with the delivery of the piece. Empathy and care go beyond that.
