Daniel's sign writing practice involves using brush lettering, glass gilding and pinstriping techniques to embellish shopfronts, offices and public spaces. He discovered the craft unexpectedly while working in a bar, where customers admired his blackboard designs. “I did not know that sign writing could be a profession as it is not taught in the Czech Republic," he says. "I first taught myself the craft and later learned with master sign writer Jakob Engberg in Copenhagen." Over the past decades, traditional hand painted signage has largely been replaced by digital solutions, making this craft increasingly rare. Daniel's work to revive it is being recognised internationally. He was selected for Homo Faber Fellowship to share his knowledge, and will showcase his work at Homo Faber 2026.
