Daniel Suchefort found his calling for creating saddles while riding with two horses and packed gear on a cattle range in Canada. "I wanted to make saddles that invite people to feel the freedom of riding through untamed landscapes," he says. After completing a toolmaking apprenticeship and studying medical engineering in Germany, Daniel explored stunning natural sceneries while working remotely from all over the world. Returning to Europe, he crafted outdoor gear inspired by the Swiss cavalry and tested it on a challenging ride through the Carpathians. Today, from his workshop INLAND Saddlery, Daniel hand-stitches every creation himself, ensuring that each piece meets his highest standards of durability, functionality and trust. His work is deeply rooted in sustainability, using only vegetable-tanned, aniline leather and materials free from plastics and fully compostable. "My creations are trusted companions for those ready to embark on adventures, whether with their horse or on their own," Daniel says.

My training in toolmaking and engineering taught me precision, mindfulness and patience. I build everything from scratch, knowing that rushing ruins craftsmanship. When I feel rushed, I stop – being calm is key to true quality.
My saddlery combines traditional techniques with modern insights. For example, nowadays we know that centred weight of saddlebags, instead of front-loaded weight, supports the horse's natural movement, balance and back health. This respects how power flows from the hindquarters through the long back muscle.
I truly enjoy transforming old saddles into bags or backpacks. Horse owners often send me saddles from their beloved, departed animals. It is rewarding to give a new life to a saddle that once carried the rider, allowing it to continue its adventures in memory of the horse.
The beauty of saddlery is that, theoretically, I can work from anywhere. With just my compact toolkit and leather, I am not tied to one location. Of course, reliable shipping is essential to deliver products to customers worldwide, but with my phone and laptop, I can manage the business side from almost anywhere.
