Creating light, colour and shape
Curiousa is an artisanal company creating handblown glass lighting in Wirksworth, England. It was the founder Esther Patterson who had a 'eureka' moment in 2010 which led to the creation of Curiousa. After being a professional graphic designer, Esther returned to university to study decorative arts and when she collaborated with a master glassblower, she knew she was on the right track. Her glass light designs were an overnight success, with simple modern shapes and exciting colours, and the company has been growing ever since.
Each glass creation is free-blown and individually shaped by hand. Now, over a decade after the creation of Curiousa, more than ten people have joined the team, to make beautiful glass every day. It is important to the company to help to sustain the craft industries in the UK and therefore Curiousa prioritises local production. They also take many steps to be as sustainable as possible, and make products designed to last.
