Cristina Garrón

Ceramicist

Sitges, Spain

Vessels marked with a human touch

  • Cristina works with local materials form Catalonia
  • In 2024, she founded her ceramic workshop in Sitges
  • She thinks of her pieces as creations with a soul

Cristina Garrón's ceramic practice emerged from years of dedicated study, curiosity and dedication. Although she has a degree in design, her connection with clay felt more tangible. "I realised my true calling was to work with my hands," she says. Cristina seeks a dialogue between past and present, integrating ancestral construction techniques with contemporary design proposals that reinterpret tradition from a modern perspective. Based in Sitges, Catalonia, she sources local materials in tune with the environment and consistent with her creative identity. The Mediterranean landscape is the primary source of inspiration for Cristina's shapes and colours. "I hope people understand and appreciate the value of handmade items," she says.

Cristina Garrón is a rising star: she began her career in 2022 and she started teaching in 2024.

INTERVIEW

I discovered the craft during an experimental workshop with friends. I felt a connection with clay the moment I manipulated it. I realised I wanted to become a ceramicist, and left my career as a designer behind.

I specialise in hand building, as my design background guides me towards a conceptual development of artistic projects. Attention for details, colours and materials are quintessential elements in my creative process. They allow me to express the aesthetic I aim to convey.

Yes, collaborations are key nowadays. Teamwork allows us to exit our comfort zones and take on a creative challenge where synergies are shared to achieve unexpected results. Collaborations are positive experiences that encourage fruitful conversations.

It is my personal way of honouring ancestors and keeping alive knowledge that is part of our history and culture. I strongly believe that in the fast-paced world we live in, traditional crafts help people to stay grounded.
