Whilst Claudio Pagelli has been making guitars since 1978 after first training as a piano maker, Claudia Pagelli, a trained designer, joined ship in 1990. What triggered this move for Claudia was Claudio asking for her opinion about a model he was working on. She was then hooked, and the duo has been creating together ever since, building custom-made, one of a kind guitars and basses. "Guitar making is a special craft that requires a lot of sensitivity and human understanding in order to build an instrument tailored to someone’s need," explains Claudio. Every instrument has its unique story, and each client is an opportunity for a new creative challenge. Crafting the perfect musical match in their workshop is Claudia and Claudio’s mission, bringing together design, craft and passion.

Interview

What sparked your interest for guitar making?: Claudio: I guess it started very early, when I was about 10. Rock’n’roll was the big thing and guitars the weapon of revolution…! Claudia: And I followed in 1990. Claudio asked me one day what I thought of the bass model he designed, and that is when the spark ignited.
How did your respective backgrounds come together?: Claudia: Our collaboration led to innovative approaches and ways of rethinking traditional guitar building. We inspire and challenge each other with ideas. Over the years we have been able to create some prototypes that influence today's guitar making.
What is it about guitar making that drives you?: Claudio: It is an unbelievably challenging profession with so many areas to master. We may not change the world with our profession, but every guitar we make will give joy and happiness for a long time. That is our contribution for a better world.
How important is your relationship with customers?: Claudia: Being able to make a guitar that fits the client perfectly is so important, and knowing that our hands create something that fulfills wishes is a wonderful feeling. It is always a magical moment when the customer sees and plays their instrument for the first time.
