Chiara de Filippis creates jewellery pieces using traditional goldsmithing and keum-boo, an ancient Korean gilding technique. "It is a meditative process that allows me to create one-of-a-kind patterns," she says. Chiara works with gold, silver and precious stones, hand picking each gem for its distinct qualities. Her path started with an apprenticeship in the workshop of master goldsmith Roberto Gelli in Florence, followed by years of dedicated practice. In 2015, she began working independently in the studio she founded. Chiara’s approach is deeply personal, and her creations are a combination of minimal volumes and essential lines. She seeks universal and timeless elements, symbolically bridging maker and wearer. "My jewellery creates an ongoing dialogue rooted in human emotion and and experience," Chiara says.

Every day involves balancing artistic integrity with commercial viability. As a solo artisan, I craft everything by hand while managing client communications and building lasting relationships. It is demanding work, but deeply rewarding. I truly believe in the enduring value of handmade objects and the vital role that artisans play in today's world.
I seek authenticity and honour the properties of each material. I never view limitations as constraints, but rather as opportunities. A piece of jewellery becomes unique through the making process, shapedby technique, vision and research.
My practice explores the balance between the conceptual and the material. I am inspired by Heraclitus’s maxim Mutando riposa, 'by changing, it rests', which is also a beacon to my work. I observe the flow of nature and life, and translate my thoughts and observation in minimal volumes and essential lines. I aim to evoke archetypal shapes that resonate without needing explicit explanation.
The most complex pieces to make are bespoke commissions that involve reforming or melting existing family jewels. While it is a fascinating experience, the unknown alloy compositions pose a technical challenge, as does the emotional responsibility of preserving memories while creating something entirely new.
