Tailoring to success

Agustín García and Lucía Serrano discovered the magic involved in pushing the needle almost by chance. Agustín originally wanted to be a marine biologist, he started working with Cecilio Serna – the Felipe XI's military tailor, trained himself by Martin Arana – and ended up doing an apprenticeship. Agustín taught the craft to his now-colleague, Lucía Serrano, a passionate fashion design student. Together they teach and spread the value of tailoring, the slow processes of creation and the beautifulness of giving garments a long life. The Serna team, the youngest master tailors in Spain, play with the wisdom of being the only Spanish workshop specialised in military tailoring, the third generation of active tailors.

INTERVIEW
We are specialised in any type of civil and military costume. Sastrería Serna is the holder of the Quality Seal A for Artisan Tailoring by the Spanish Tailoring Association. But even though we have our style, I like to open borders and expand my limits creatively.
Yes, we have our own internship program. We make agreements with schools in Spain and Europe. On the other hand, we have an online course to bring everyone closer to our way of tailoring, as well as workshops and master classes in the community of Madrid.
We transmit and create products that contains all the know-how of tailoring. But we also want to give this craft a new vision, opening ourselves to the public and teaching with passion. Likewise, social networks allow us to get closer to younger audiences.
Yes. Even though in the past years interest from the public has begun to rise, there are nonetheless currently only around 10 master tailors in our country. So, there are very few tailors and very little training available in the field.
