Lingering Snow; New Moon Jar

These vessels by William SH Lee were each hand raised from a single sheet of fine silver. The metal was worked in concentric courses through controlled hammer blows, gradually building the desired volume. The hammer marks were deliberately organised to create a dense decorative surface that catches and disperses light into a spectrum of shifting silver tones. Bringing together the cultural memory embodied in the moon jar form and the expressive language unique to metal, the pieces are characterised by a distinctive visual tension and texture.
