Starry Night Full Moon Jar; Venus Moon Jar Max I

These sculptures by Gianfranco Briceño were handmade from ceramic, and finished with engobes, oxides, glazes and gold detailing. Starry Night Full Moon is inspired by a nocturnal scene of Apollo resting in a starlit forest. The work uses textured clay and black-and-white engobes to evoke a monochrome image, while touches of gold illuminate the composition like scattered points of light. Venus Moon Max I is inspired by post-Carnival Brazil. The piece depicts two revellers at rest after dancing, surrounded by an atmosphere of lingering movement and celebration. The gold elements evoke glitter still hanging in the air.
