This sculpture by Sean Gerstley was hand built from clay, primarily using coil and slab techniques. The surface was built up with a varied palette of matte, gloss and satin glazes in multiple layers, serving to fill in and define the relief. Blurring function, ornament and fantasy, the work turns a domestic form into an expressive object that feels both familiar and novel.
