Silent Song 7

Silent Song 7 was made from fragmented quail eggshells applied to a urushi surface, sealed beneath successive layers of lacquer and revealed through polishing. Jewel beetle wings, cut into round shapes, highlight the pattern. Toyoumi Kenta sensed purity, stillness, love and prayer in Es Devlin’s design and interpreted these through cymatic frequencies that overlap and resonate like a melody. Within the natural order of the pattern, the medium of urushi expresses human action, and a beauty that is intentionally imperfect.
