Esposto in A ROOTED ASCENT

Urushi, Bamboo strip

This sculpture by Jiro Yonezawa was woven from flattened strips of bamboo, shaped into an abstract pebble form, with a base made from cane. It was dyed a deep eggplant colour and finished with urushi lacquer. Drawing on traditional Japanese bamboo craft techniques, the work explores the material's remarkable versatility and potential for contemporary design.
