Bringing straw to life

French artisan Valérie Colas des Francs specialises in straw marquetry, exploring and developing techniques that bring movement and textural effects to surfaces. During the live demonstration at Homo Faber 2026, Valérie will showcase the different stages involved in creating a straw marquetry piece. Using different varieties and colours of straw, she will show the meticulous gestures behind an intricate composition.
