Bridging wicker and computational design
Founded in 2018 by Priyanka Narula, The Wicker Story aims to connect computational design with India’s basketweaving traditions. After studying parametric architecture at IAAC Barcelona, Priyanka returned to Hyderabad searching for ways to translate the complex geometries of digital fabrication into handwoven form. What began as an experimental object evolved into a studio producing sculptural furniture, lighting and large scale installations in cane and rattan.
Working with in-house artisans and independent weaving clusters, The Wicker Story repositions basketweaving within contemporary interiors and collectible design. Intricate colour layering, oversized woven surfaces and structural experimentation push the material beyond its vernacular associations while sustaining local craft knowledge. Today, the atelier expands its research into architectural-scale applications, recycled materials and weaving traditions. The Wicker Story is driven by the belief that craft remains a vital tool for contemporary design rather than a relic of the past.
