Ram Gopal Blue Pottery specialises in blue pottery, a ceramic technique that nearly disappeared from Jaipur in the 20th century. Gopal Saini founded the studio in 1993 after training with Kripal Singh Shekhawat, a ceramicist who revived the dying craft in the 1960s. Today, Gopal works with his daughter Garima, who joined the atelier in 2016. Blue pottery originates from Persia and the wider Islamic world, and reached India under royal patronage in the 19th century. The craft now carries a Geographical Indication Tag that proves its creations derive their unique qualities from the heart of the city.

Unlike most ceramics, blue pottery uses no clay at all. At Ram Gopal Blue Pottery, a paste made from ground quartz, glass and natural gum is moulded, hand painted and glazed before firing. Every piece undergoes more than 40 hand processes and can take months to complete. The manufacturer introduces the Jaipur traditions of miniature painting and lotus motifs into a craft usually associated with geometric and floral patterns. Ram Gopal Blue Pottery employs 60 artisans and welcomes visitors to browse finished pieces and join workshops to learn the craft firsthand.
