Fantasy worked at the flame

Founded in 2005 by Prateek Jain and Gautam Seth, Klove Studio draws its expertise from the historic glassmaking hub of Ambala in northern India. For generations, the town's artisans supplied precision laboratory glassware worldwide. Recognising the sculptural possibilities in these traditional glassblowing techniques, the founders channelled this regional expertise into contemporary art and lighting design.

Working between New Delhi and Haryana, Klove Studio brings together a team of around 150 craftspeople across glass, metal, assembly and design. Fifty glass blowers, led by ten master artisans, shape heated rods and tubes at the flame. The material is turned on a lathe, softened, then pulled, pinched and formed with tongs and hand tools. Metal armatures are fabricated separately, with each glass element assembled by hand. What emerges belongs to a world of fantasy: flowering forests, totems and antlered creatures take shape as chandeliers, screens and monumental installations for residences, hotels and airports worldwide.
